Costing Engineer

We are looking to expand our team with an experienced candidate from a manufacturing engineering estimating/costing background.

All estimating backgrounds are encouraged to apply, however those candidates with metalwork industry experience will be viewed highly favourably. Candidates who are in a pressing, welding, laser cut fabrication and CNC machining industry and are actively looking to go into an estimating/office-based engineering role will be well suited.

Day to day, the successful candidate will be formulating quotations and creating estimate costs from costing each component from reading CAD or engineering drawings. The role is centred around identifying the most suitable and cost-effective process route to manufacture components via internal capabilities and sub-contract operations.

The recruit will be working as a team of 3 estimators, plus sales and engineering support on-hand.

Responsibilities:

  • Receive and review RFQ’s and engineering drawings from the sales team
  • Liaise, communicate, and negotiate with suppliers to obtain subcontract costs
  • Prepare cost sheets for individual components and assemblies to deadlines, ready for the sales team to quote
  • Assist with preparation of production components and material which will involve working with various internal teams and uploading on to our ERP system
  • Work effectively with other members of the estimating department and wider business to achieve the most effective and competitive solutions

Supporting with business/costing queries on our ERP system through reviewing process routes and BOMs

Skills & Experience 

  • Engineering apprenticeship, formal engineering qualification or industry experience is preferable
  • Computer literate is essential, with experience on Microsoft NAV Dynamics being a bonus

Ability to read and translate technical drawings is essential.

Project Engineer

Specific Role & Responsibilities for Project Engineer:
  • Overall responsibility for delivering assigned NPI projects on-time, to specification and within budget
  • Represent the company with customers and selected vendors during project execution
  • Report project status internally and present to customers
    • Creation of timing plans covering from receipt of order to SOP
    • Provide solutions to delivery and technical issues
  • Conduct tool design reviews and final tooling buy offs with toolmakers in the UK and China
    • Will require occasional visits to toolmakers in China
  • Negotiate the scope of work, and any subsequent changes, with customers and vendors
  • Manage project budgets and raise orders with vendors
  • Create and review APQP and PPAP documents for submission to customers
  • Support any other customer specific requirements during project phase
  • Co-ordinate projects with other departments to ensure actions are carried out in line with timing plans
  • Responsible for handing over all documents, tools and fixtures to production and quality teams ahead of SOP
  • Ensure safe manufacturing processes are delivered to production and provide support after SOP
  • Identify project risks and create contingency plans to ensure successful delivery of projects
  • Support technical feasibility and DFM reviews
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities within the engineering department
Qualifications and Education Requirements

Degree, HNC or equivalent in an engineering or science discipline.

Required Skills
  • Professional management capability requiring considerable independence in approach; make decisions, set priorities, and deliver the project to budget and schedule.
  • Proven experience with press tooling in either design and/or manufacturing environments
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Understanding of contracts and commercial awareness
  • Good understanding of technical drawings
  • Use of Microsoft Project
Preferred Skills
  • Understanding of our manufacturing processes:- Pressing / Stamping, Laser cutting, Press Brake, MIG Welding, Projection Welding, Machining and Mechanical assembly
  • Understanding of automation equipment
  • Experience using CAD software, Solid Works preferable
  • Competency using basic measuring equipment (digital calipers, micrometer, height gauge, etc.)
  • Understanding of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949

 

Additional Notes
  • 35 hour week – 08:30-16:30 Mon to Thurs and 08:30:13:30 Friday
