Promoting Sustainability with Reusable Items Ahead of National Recycling Week

From 14th to 20th October, we celebrate National Recycling Week in the UK, an annual campaign aimed at encouraging more frequent and correct recycling and sustainability practices. Jenks & Cattell Engineering holds the ISO 14001 environmental standard accreditation, ensuring our sustainability activities align with this standard.

We have numerous recycling initiatives, including the segregation of dry mixed recycling, wood, and cardboard. Recently, we have started separating food waste; ahead of the legal requirement for all UK businesses by the end of March 2025, as part of the Simpler Recycling Legislation.

The Jenks & Cattell Engineering team were recently gifted with travel mugs, metal water bottles, and recycled tote bags as we actively promote reusable items to reduce plastic packaging and carrier bag usage. Partnering with Veolia, we continuously strive to enhance our recycling efforts, with exciting plans on the horizon for 2025.

In our metal pressing and laser cutting industry, we process thousands of tonnes of metal annually. We separate and recycle different types of metal scrap, including brass, copper, stainless steel, and aluminium, all of which can be repurposed. As members of the Aluminium Federation, we support their statement: “Aluminium is easily and economically recycled, saving 95% of the energy compared to producing primary metal. Remarkably, 75% of all aluminium produced since the late 19th century is still in use today, with a 100% recycling rate for new scrap arising during fabrication.”

At Jenks & Cattell Engineering, we are committed to leading the way in sustainable practices.
