At Jenks & Cattell Engineering, safety is our top priority, embodied in one of our mottos: “stay safe at work, for those at home.” This commitment was highlighted today during our Safety and Wellbeing Week, as we welcomed Lisa Ramos and her husband Dave to our plant.
To ensure full attention, we halted production and turned off all machinery, allowing all 100 employees to hear Lisa’s impactful story. Eighteen years ago, on her son’s 13th birthday, Lisa was struck by a 2.5-tonne forklift truck, resulting in the loss of her leg above the knee.
Lisa and Dave shared their personal experience of the accident, emphasising the critical importance of workplace safety and the far-reaching consequences of accidents on families, finances, and businesses. Their heartfelt presentation, infused with humour and emotion, resonated deeply with our team, reinforcing that safety is a collective responsibility from communicating, reporting and acting on safety concerns.
Jenks & Cattell Engineering implements numerous safety measures to protect our team, including office and shop floor safety representatives, near-miss reporting, visual safety aids, and our Risk Hunter programme.
