1886

Founded by Albert Ernest Jenks and John Henry Cattell

1886-1937

Stampers and bucket ear manufacturers, including small pressings and tools

1900

Began manufacturing prestigious Jenks & Cattell branded garden tools

1930

Sold our garden tools directly to Woolworths, who proudly sold them for sixpence

1937

Factory built in Neachells lane, Wednesfield

1950

Largest light washer and pressings manufacturer in the UK

1951

Produced automotive components, brake drums, gramophones, aircraft and ship parts

1961

Employed over 850 workers

1970

Built a new factory on Neachells lane

1981 – 1984

One of the largest garden tools manufacturers in the UK. Became part of Elliot – Medway construction, where Bulldog Tools bought the garden tools section of the business

1986

Sold to Newship group and became Jenks & Cattell Engineering Ltd. Family owned business and own various manufacturing companies.

1990

Accredited to BS 5750, the first quality system approved by British standards

1992

Introduced two robotic welders to support business for Austin Rover group

1993

Four stage AIDA line welcomed to the factory

1998

ISO 14001 accredited

1999

Began exporting to Europe and South America

2001

Began supplying General Motors, starting our tier 1 and 2 OEM supply chain

2002

Introduced automated 500 tonne press

2003

Increased our AIDA progression press from 4 to 6 stages to improve complexity and efficiency of parts

2004

TS 16949 accredited

2010

Introduced Trumpf laser machine to laser cut and etch metal parts

2011

Invested in two Trumpf brake presses to accompany our laser machine. Completing mid-low volume fabrications and prototypes

2012

£10,000 investment on internal macro-weld test facility

2014

Invested £750k on additional Trumpf laser machine, to introduce 24-7 production and cut materials up to 20mm thick

2015

Achieved Caterpillars 7 Steps to Welding Excellence – being one of just 3 UK suppliers

2016

Employ over 100 people including 5 apprentices and 3 graduates – turnover £9.2m

2016

Invested £250k in 4 new additional robotic welders

2016

Celebrate our 130th Birthday

2016

Recieved award from Caterpillar for supplier excellence

2016

Became a Cummins Category Partner

2018

Invested in MRP System

2020

£40k Investment for press tool store room to house new automotive resource

2021

Celebrated a decade of apprentices with City of Wolverhampton College with 15 apprentices to date

Invested in aluminium welding equipment and training to support electric vehicles and electric bike components

Introduced Target Zero philosophy for zero defects, accidents, variance and landfill

2024

Invested in largest coil fed progression press to date – 750t.
