🌍 Celebrating Sustainability Day at Jenks & Cattell Engineering

At Jenks & Cattell Engineering, sustainability isn’t just a statement, it’s embedded in our operations, culture, and long-term vision. On Sustainability Day 2025, we celebrate how our actions contribute to a healthier planet, stronger communities, and a more responsible manufacturing industry.

Turning Sustainability into Action

We embed environmental and social responsibility into our daily operations:

Turn It Off Campaign – Encouraging team members to switch off idle machines, heaters, and lights. We integrated it into our Risk Hunt Programme, resulting in reduced energy use and fewer risk submissions.

Eagle Eye Programme – Our team identify non-conformance which reduces variance and defects. We average 12 Eagle Eyes each month which boosts our overall operational efficiency by minimising rework and material waste.

Environmental  Certification – Maintaining the ISO 14001  standard since 1998, recycling metals, cardboard, wood, plastic, and food waste. Jenks & Cattell Engineering have achieved 100% of landfill waste diversion since January 2023.

Supporting a Low-Emission Future

We manufacture metal components, a sector traditionally associated with emissions, yet we drive for sustainable continuous improvement.

Partner Alignment: The majority of our metal assemblies have sustainable use. Typical products where our parts go include electric and hydrogen vehicles, lifting equipment and electric bicycles with the businesses having a green and sustainable outlook.   Our suppliers and customers are similarly sustainability-focused, enabling a shared environmental and social impact across the value chain.

Onsite Change: We encourage our team to improve their personal emissions by using our Bike2Work Scheme and our carpark EV chargers. We have replaced all lights on site to efficient LED lighting. Our team has access to a freshwater machine and reusable Jenks & Cattell branded bottles to reduce disposable bottle usage.

Engineering Improvements:  We have gradually improved the efficiency of our machinery including metal presses and welding equipment. Our most recent investments of laser and CNC machines are very emissions focused. Read more about our Lean Manufacturing dedication.

Compressor Room:  Our compressor room provides power to a wide range of production processes throughout the factory. The room is designed to maximise efficiency, safety and lifespan of equipment.

Standards, Partnerships, and Continuous Improvement

We are governed by BSI, certified to ISO 14001 and ISO 9001, and members of Made in the Midlands and NEAA who support vehicle emission reduction, sustainable manufacturing and Backing British Manufacturing and supply chain.

Happy Sustainability Day from everyone at Jenks & Cattell Engineering. 💚
